Beauty of Joseon
04 March 2025
Beauty of Joseon has expanded its sunscreen line with the Daily Tinted Fluid Sunscreen SPF 40, the first of its line to offer tints in 12 shades. The brand has built a reputation of creating lightweight sunscreens with new generation UV filters that offer broad spectrum and high protection against UV rays. It’s no wonder that this K-beauty brand has achieved viral success with its sunscreen releases in the US and global markets, galvanising its expansion into the US market. This new Daily Tinted Fluid Sunscreen seems to specially cater to its US fanbase with its choice of filters, labelling and shade range.

Is the Beauty of Joseon Matte Sun Stick Worth Buying?
Beauty of Joseon Daily Tinted Fluid Sunscreen is described as a fluid tinted sunscreen that is lightweight, hydrating and comes in 12 different shades. Demand for Beauty of Joseon Daily Tinted Fluid Sunscreen is clearly high as a few shades have been sold out since its release a week ago in mid February 2025.
• SPF 40
• UVA protection not stated
• Zinc oxide- an inorganic/ physical UV filter with broad spectrum protection against UV and UVB rays
• Butyloctyl Salicylate: SPF Booster that enhances sunscreen efficacy by improving UV filter dispersion and photostability of product. More about SPF boosters in this video.
• Hydrogenated Olive Oil Unsaponifiables – Emollients that mimic the skin’s natural lipids
• Artemeisa capillaris extract aka Mugwort: Antioxidant and anti-inflammatory benefits. More about mugwort and other trending Korean skincare ingredients in An Expert’s Guide to Trending Korean Skincare Ingredients
• Butylene glycol, propanediol, 1,2-Hexanediol, Polyglycerin-6: humectants that retain moisture
Interestingly, Beauty of Joseon Daily Tinted Fluid Sunscreen was not available for purchase through the e-commerce shops that I usually purchase from i.e. Olive Young Global store, Beauty of Joseon’s Korean website and Beauty of Joseon’s official store on Shopee Singapore (as of mid February 2025). I had to purchase Beauty of Joseon Daily Tinted Fluid Sunscreen from Beauty of Joseon’s global website.
One benefit of Beauty of Joseon Daily Tinted Fluid Sunscreen from purchasing from the brand’s website directly is its Shade Finder questionnaire that helps you to determine your closest shade fit; and the virtual try on VR tool. You pick your skin colour from a range of 10 tones and undertone (warm, neutral, cool); and Beauty of Joseon recommends a shade for you.
The retail price of Beauty of Joseon Daily Tinted Fluid Sunscreen is USD$28 (approx SGD$36) for 50ml. This works out to be ~$0.72/ml. However, I bought the Beauty of Joseon Daily Tinted Fluid Sunscreen on the day of its release and enjoyed a discount for 2 bottles. I paid USD$13.86 for one bottle (approx SGD$18.10). Ironically, shipping Beauty of Joseon sunscreens to Singapore was more expensive than the sunscreens themselves…

True to its name, the Beauty of Joseon Daily Tinted Fluid Sunscreen has a fluid like texture that glides easily on the skin. Cosmetic coverage is light, but buildable. No white cast or pilling for me with Beauty of Joseon Daily Tinted Fluid Sunscreen.
The Shade Finder and virtual try on via the Beauty of Joseon website gave accurate shade recommendations to me. After the discount, the beauty of Joseon Daily Tinted Fluid Sunscreen ~SGD$0.28/ml puts it in the low-mid price range of Korean sunscreens.
The glaringly obvious problem with Beauty of Joseon Daily Tinted Fluid Sunscreen is its lack of mention for UVA protection. Only “broad spectrum” is mentioned, but Beauty of Joseon does not mention the extent of this protection. This led me to wonder if Beauty of Joseon did bother to test for UVA protection; or if the PA figure was too low and Beauty of Joseon decided to omit it.
For a brand that prides itself as creating ultra lightweight sunscreens with broad and high UV protection with new generation UV filters, I was sorely disappointed with Beauty of Joseon Daily Tinted Fluid Sunscreen. It offers only SPF 40 and unknown UVA protection; and only contains zinc oxide as its UV filter. However, one might argue that Beauty of Joseon’s intention was to create an inorganic/physical/mineral sunscreen.
Applying Beauty of Joseon Daily Tinted Fluid Sunscreen was tricker than other tinted sunscreens I’ve used. I used my fingers to spread the Beauty of Joseon Daily Tinted Fluid Sunscreen, and in spite of my best efforts, it always looks patchy for me. As an afterthought, I could have tried applying Beauty of Joseon Daily Tinted Fluid Sunscreen with a makeup brush or sponge to even out the sunscreen like a foundation.
It leaves a heavy slimy feel that transfers easily even after 1 hour. Where strands of hair fell across my face, I could see the streaks of sunscreen transfer. Beauty of Joseon Daily Tinted Fluid Sunscreen looks cakey on me after 2 hours. Over the course of the day, the tint leaves a messy look when the sunscreen starts to slide off and collect in my laugh lines. I’ve shared how it really looks in this reel.
Beauty of Joseon Daily Tinted Fluid Sunscreen was disappointing in terms of its protection and finish. This tinted sunscreen is nothing like its older viral sunscreens- lower UV protection (and questionable UVA protection); and how easily the sunscreen transfers worries me about the actual UV protection from the sunscreen. The cosmetic finish was a mess; and if you have skin type similar to mine (combination of oily and dry skin), you might find the Beauty of Joseon Daily Tinted Fluid Sunscreen sliding off your skin and caking.
This Beauty of Joseon Daily Tinted Fluid Sunscreen feels like it was catered to its US market- the choice of zinc oxide as its UV filter (the new generation UV filters in its older sunscreens have not received US FDA approval), labelling on its packaging as per US FDA requirements for sunscreen, and that this tinted sunscreen being sold on its global website instead of Korean points of purchase such as Olive Young stores in found in Seoul and Korean e-commerce sites like Olive Young Global, as of mid February 2025.
In short, this Beauty of Joseon Daily Tinted Fluid Sunscreen is a disappointing mess on my skin. I gave up using Beauty of Joseon Daily Tinted Fluid Sunscreen after a week.
