Collagen banking
27 March 2025
The beauty industry is ever evolving; and the synergy between skincare, makeup, and aesthetics has become more evident. To explore this convergence of the art and science of beauty, makeup artist and founder of Bare Beauty Collective, Rachel Ong, and I recently shared our expert insights on 2025’s beauty trends and tips to enhance your beauty routine. Here are some of the highlights and insights from our symposium in March 2025:
The most exciting and engaging part of the discussion was unpacking the top beauty trends for 2025. This year, we are seeing a strong emphasis on a healthier skin barrier, regenerative skincare, as the foundation for beautiful, glowing skin. Harsh treatments and over-exfoliation can damage the skin barrier, causing sensitivity, breakouts, and dullness. We are seeing the popularity of barrier-repairing ingredients like ceramides, niacinamide, and peptides to strengthen the skin while still achieving a radiant complexion.

Makeup trends are shifting towards a soft-focus effect with satin matte finishes. Unlike traditional matte looks that can appear flat and dry, the satin matte effect balances radiance with smoothness—making the skin look polished yet natural. Rachel Ong shared expert techniques for achieving this finish, including the right skincare prep, hydrating primers, and strategic powdering to control shine while maintaining a healthy glow.
One key takeaway from our discussion was the concept of collagen banking—the proactive approach of preserving and boosting collagen levels to delay signs of ageing. With age, collagen production declines, leading to signs like enlarged pores, wrinkles, dullness and sagging. Incorporating collagen-stimulating treatments like lasers, microneedling, and biostimulators can help maintain skin firmness and elasticity for years to come. If you are not into neurotoxins or treating age related volume loss in the face, collagen banking treatments gives natural looking results.
