Review: Rejuran Sunscreen

Putting a popular Korean sunscreen to the test: the Rejuran Healer UV Protection Cream. Produced by the makers of a popular polynucleotide skin treatment, Rejuran Healer UV Protection Cream has been positioned as both a sunscreen and a skin-repairing polynucleotide treatment. Here’s my review of the Rejuran Healer sunscreen.

What it is

The Rejuran Healer UV Protection Cream is part of Rejuran’s cosmetic range; and is made by PharmaResearch, a South Korean biopharmaceutical company that also manufactures the polynucleotide Skinbooster treatment that is popular in Singapore and Korea.

Polynucleotides (PDRN) are fragments of DNA, typically obtained from salmon sperm. PDRN skin injections are used to treat signs of ageing like enlarged pores and wrinkles; and acne scars due to their collagen boosting benefits- you can learn more about this treatment in PDRN Skinboosers: All You Need to Know. Not surprisingly, PDRN skincare has also surged in popularity in recent years with brands using a variety of sources of PDRN, including plant sources, like ginseng and roses. You can learn more about PDRN skincare and my reviews in:

Is Vegan or Plant PDRN as effective as Salmon PDRN?

Despite the overwhelming choices of PDRN skincare, Rejuran skincare is still regarded as the OG of PDRN skincare. The salmon PDRN used in Rejuran’s treatments have received approval from Korea’s FDA; and the specific c-PDRN® (Cosmetic-PDRN) technology used in their products is patented by the manufacturer, PharmaResearch.

Sunscreen coverage of Rejuran SPF 50 Sunscreen

• SPF 50
• PA ++++

Sunscreen filters in Rejuran Sunscreen

• Homosalate,
• Ethylhexyl Salicylate (Octisalate)
• Benzophenone-3 (Oxybenzone)
• Butylmethoxydibenzoylmethane (Avobenzone)
• Octocrylene

Notable ingredients in Rejuran Sunscreen

• 0.2% c-PDRN– the star ingredient of Rejuran skincare. c-PDRN stands for cellular polydeoxyribonucleotide, which is patented by PharmaResearch, the developer of Rejuran medical devices and skincare. c-PDRN is said to contain a DNA Optimizing Technology (DOT) that the company claims to optimise skin absorption and biological activity. However I was not able to locate any publication on c-PDRN in mainstream journals to substantiate these claims. Evidence for PDRN treatments is mainly for PDRN injections into the skin; evidence for topical forms of PDRN is less robust.
• Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice, Avena Sativa (Oat) Kernel Extract, Camellia Sinensis (Green Tea) Leaf Extract, Glycyrrhiza Glabra (Licorice) Extract, Rubus Fruticosus (Blackberry) Leaf Extract, Morus Nigra (Black Mulberry) Fruit Extract, Punica Granatum (Pomegranate) Seed Oil: Botanical extracts offering varying antioxidant and anti-inflammatory benefits
• Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea) Butter: Emollient that softens skin
• Glycerin, Sodium Hyaluronate, Panthenol: Humectants that retain moisture in the skin
• Fragrance

Where to buy Healer UV Protection Cream

REJURAN Healer UV Protection Cream is available at Olive Young’s website and selected retailers in Singapore

Price Of Rejuran Sunscreen

I paid USD$28 (~SGD$36) for a 50ml tube of REJURAN Healer UV Protection Cream from Olive Young’s website. This works out to SGD$0.56/ml.

The good about Rejuran Sunscreen

• Broad spectrum, high UV protection
• No pilling
• No cosmetic coverage
• Moisturising feel

The bad about Rejuran Sunscreen

• PDRN benefits in REJURAN Healer UV Protection Cream are overhyped, and at a low amount (fourth ingredient from the bottom of the ingredient), any benefits from salmon PDRN are likely to be insignificant. I tested this sunscreen after a chemical peel on my face and did not feel that this sunscreen had any reparative or calming benefits for my skin.
• Vegetarians may not be able to use Rejuran sunscreen because it contains salmon derived PDRN; plant derived PDRN has been discussed in Is Vegan or Plant PDRN as effective as Salmon PDRN?
• Finish on my skin is shiny
• Feels greasy
• Not sweat resistant
• Fragrance- chemical like smell.

My take on Rejuran Sunscreen

Disappointingly, REJURAN Healer UV Protection Cream could not hold up for me. Even when I used this sunscreen indoors, this sunscreen film would disintegrate easily with minimal sweat.
This sunscreen made my skin look shiny and greasy. The Rejuran felt like a regular sunscreen; there were no other benefits that I could attribute to c-PDRN at all. There are many other broad spectrum, high protection sunscreens with more elegant finishes in my opinion; and I’ve shared about them in Sunscreen Reviews 2024 and Sunscreen Review 2021. Evidence for topical PDRN is limited to PDRN skinbooster injections, and with my disappointing experience with this Rejuran sunscreen, I will not be repurchasing this Rejuran sunscreen.
