Chanel Rouge Coco Hydra Gloss Review: Solaire, Accessoire and Icing

Chanel Rouge Coco Hydra Gloss Review: Solaire, Accessoire and Icing

I have a soft spot for Chanel lip products, because their lipsticks and glosses that look polished without requiring much technique- perfect for my amateur makeup skills on busy mornings when I want my makeup look to be fresh, not fussy or clumsy.

The new Chanel Rouge Coco Hydra Gloss is Chanel’s updated high-shine lip gloss with added lip care benefits. As a fan of Chanel Le Rouge Duo Ultra Tenue (if anyone asks, my favourite shade is 174 Endless Pink) this Chanel Rouge Coco Hydra Gloss goes heavy on the shine factor in one swipe, instead of needing another gloss layer.

Chanel Rouge Coco Hydra Gloss

The Chanel Rouge Coco Hydra Gloss is a high-shine lip gloss with a more moisturising, lip care focused formula. The formula is enriched with camellia ceramides and a Hydra-Peptide Complex. Across all 3 Chanel Rouge Coco Hydra Gloss felt like an elegantly formulated lip oil- glides on the lip with good slip, without the typical stickiness or tacky feel of most generic lip oils or glosses. The high shine of the gloss gives an instant plumping effect to the lips. The Chanel Rouge Coco Hydra Gloss left my lips feeling moisturised and smooth.

430 Icing

Icing is a very light, milky pink shade. On my lips, it gives the softest wash of pale pink with a shine. This is the shade I use to choose for very light makeup days and it pairs beautifully with an illuminating blusher. Chanel Rouge Coco Hydra Gloss in Icing leaves my lips looking smoother and more hydrated without a discernible colour coverage.

Chanel Rouge Coco Hydra Gloss 436 Solaire

436 Solaire

Solaire is a bright red colour that’s the brightest and most vibrant among the shades of Chanel Rouge Coco Hydra Gloss that I received. It’s richly pigmented with high colour payoff; but still looks translucent like a lip gloss. Despite the bright red colour, I found Solaire to be surprisingly easy to match with polished makeup look for work. It’s definitely a shade that I’d choose to finish off my daily makeup routine and helps my lips to withstand the cold, dry air of my clinic.

Accessoire is a nude beige that’s the most understated shade of the three Chanel Rouge Coco Hydra Gloss. It gives my lips a glossy beige finish, like a classic nude gloss. I like to wear Accessoire on my no make-up (but sunscreen laden) days to look more alive and put together.

Texture and Finish of Chanel Rouge Coco Hydra Gloss

Chanel Rouge Coco Hydra Gloss has a very glossy, reflective finish. It immediately creates the look of smoother, fuller lips and plumps up lip creases. The look however, is elegant without coming across as thick or lacquered.

The texture is lightweight and comfortable. Chanel Rouge Coco Hydra Gloss does feel like a gloss with a film-like effect on the lips; but it has more cushion than a typical lip gloss and does not feel sticky or tacky.

I also like that the Chanel Rouge Coco Hydra Gloss does not immediately slide off the lips. It adheres reasonably well for a hydrating gloss and gives the lips a soft, plump appearance.

Hydration and Lip Care Ingredients in Chanel Rouge Coco Hydra Gloss

As an aesthetic doctor and skincare nerd, I take a scientific approach by scrutinising the ingredient list of my beauty products, including makeup. Chanel Rouge Coco Hydra Gloss formula contains several ingredients moisture support like camellia ceramides and its Hydra-Peptide Complex. The ingredient list also includes emollients, waxes and oils such as camellia seed oil, hibiscus seed oil, sunflower seed wax, rice bran wax, jojoba esters, ceramide NP and palmitoyl tripeptide-1.

The Chanel Rouge Coco Hydra Gloss is moisturising and comforting my dry lips and protects my lips from cracking- with a beauty glossy finish.

Wear Time on Chanel Rouge Coco Hydra Gloss

On my lips, the lip gloss lasts for a few hours if I am not eating. With drinking, the gloss does slip partially and needs to be reapplied, which is to be expected for a lip gloss. It is not a long-wear liquid lipstick or lip tint, so do not expect budge-proof colour.
The colour payoff also varies by shade. Solaire leaves the most visible tint. Accessoire and Icing behave more like sheer glosses that enhance the lips rather than transform them.

The Good About Chanel Rouge Coco Hydra Gloss

• The shine is elegant and very flattering on the lips. It gives the lips a smoother, fuller appearance without looking overly shiny
• The texture is comfortable and less sticky than many traditional glosses.
• Solaire is a very wearable reddish coral for Asian skin tones.
• Icing gives a soft, fresh pink sheen for minimal makeup days.
• Accessoire is a polished neutral beige that works well with stronger eye makeup.
• The packaging feels luxurious

The Bad About Chanel Rouge Coco Hydra Gloss

• The formula contains fragrance, so very sensitive lips may not tolerate it.
• The wear time is typical of a gloss, so it needs reapplication after meals.
• At SGD 61, this is a luxury lip gloss. You are paying for the texture, finish, packaging and Chanel experience, so enjoy it!

How I Would Wear Each Shade

Icing

• Best for: clean skin, light blush, minimal makeup
• Effect: soft, milky pink shine
• My tip: use a thin layer to avoid a pale, streaky finish.

Solaire

• Best for: everyday colour, healthy makeup, warm blush
• Effect: juicy reddish coral
• My tip: use alone for a fresh look, or layer over a coral lip liner for more definition.

Accessoire

• Best for: polished nude lips, work makeup, stronger eyes
• Effect: neutral beige gloss
• My tip: pair with a rose-brown lip liner if your natural lip colour is uneven.

My favourite shade of Chanel Rouge Coco Hydra Gloss- 436 Solaire

My Favourite Shade of Chanel Rouge Coco Hydra Gloss

My favourite of the three is Solaire. It has the best balance of colour, shine and ease. The reddish coral shade makes the lips look brighter without being loud, and it elevates my every day makeup to the clinic for a polished look.
Accessoire is the most elegant shade with its quiet, luxurious nude finish. Icing is pretty, especially for a soft pink makeup look and I love wearing it on my days off for a soft, no make up look.

Final Verdict on Chanel Rouge Coco Hydra Gloss

Chanel Rouge Coco Hydra Gloss is a beautiful luxury lip gloss if you enjoy high shine, comfort and a polished lip look. It is a comfortable, elegant gloss that makes the lips look smoother, fuller and fresher. Of the three shades I tried, Solaire was my favourite followed by Icing and Accessoire.

If you already enjoy Chanel lip products, Rouge Coco Hydra Gloss feels like a natural addition to your make up routine. It has the refined shine that Chanel does well: glossy, but not garish; moisturising, but not oily; and elegant enough for both work and weekends.
