29 Aug Chanel Sublimage Ultimate Lip Oil review
Coco Chanel once famously said, “If you’re sad, if you are disappointed in love, put on your makeup, give yourself some beauty care, put on lipstick, and attack.” And she is right about our lips- they don’t lie. Our lips, as a central feature of our faces, can influence perceptions of beauty and age. However, our lips are one of the most delicate areas of your face, with no sebaceous glands and a thinner skin cover against ageing and dryness.

I’m a believer of lip care, and have accrued an arsenal of lip balms, SPF and oils to combat my lip dryness. When Chanel Beauty launched its Sublimage L’extrait Huile Levres Ultimate Lip Oil- I was intrigued and had to try it. Lip oils are not a new innovation; and at $458 for 7mls, Chanel Beauty Sublimage L’extrait Huile Levres Ultimate Lip Oil is the most expensive lip product I know. Chanel Beauty kindly sent their new lip oil for me and here’s my review of the Chanel Beauty Sublimage L’extrait Huile Levres Ultimate Lip Oil
The glass vial of Chanel Beauty lip oil is housed in an elegant leather pouch lined with tweed. Tres chic!
About Chanel Sublimage L’extrait Huile Levres Ultimate Lip Oil
This lip oil is Chanel Beauty’s first lip oil; and it debuts under its Sublimage line- its most luxurious range that features highly prized extracts from Vanilla Panifloria and Swertia flowers from Bhutan.
Chanel Beauty sources its Vanilla Planifolia from its open sky laboratory in Madagascar. What sets Chanel Beauty’s Vanilla Paniflora extracts apart from others is its patented, 12 step extraction technology known as polyfractioning. Put simply, this extraction process concentrates the active ingredients in Vanilla Planiflora to maximise its benefits. According to Chanel, the polyfractioned extract from Vanilla Planifora is rich in polyketones, which optimise cell communication in the skin and enhance skin regeneration.
At the heart of Chanel Beauty’s Sublimage line is also the Swertia flower plant. Swertia chirata is a rare plant native to the Himalayas; and is used in Ayurvedic medicine for its regenerative effects. In modern skincare, Swertia flowers are harnessed for their bioactive compounds including xanthonoids, iridoids and flavonoids, which provide antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and barrier repair benefits. The Swertia flowers are hand harvested every three years; and prepared by Chanel’s patented supercritical CO2 extraction process.

My review of Chanel Sublimage L’extrait Huile Levres Ultimate Lip Oil
*This product was gifted by Chanel Beauty Singapore with no obligation to post. All opinions are mine and not influenced by the brand.
True to Chanel Sublimage’s luxury positioning, the lip oil comes in a lacquered glass vial with an elegant leather case lined with tweed, making the lip oil very much a statement piece as it is a skincare product. The lip oil is dispensed via a golden metal applicator; that cools and soothes the lips as the oil is spread on the lips.
Chanel Sublimage L’extrait Huile Levres Ultimate Lip Oil has an interesting oil serum texture that transforms from an oil into a lightweight watery layer. My lips felt more moisturised; and fine creases were plumper. The finish is a glossy sheen; and can be layered on lipstick. The lip oil transfers easily; and I have to keep reapplying each time I get a drink.
Before/ after wearing Chanel lip oil. Above, in the before pic, are my perennially dry lips. Below is the after Chanel lip oil was applied for 5 mins. My lips are visibly plumper, shiny and the lip creases are reduced.
The good about Chanel Sublimage L’extrait Huile Levres Ultimate Lip Oil
As a hydrating lip product, the Chanel Sublimage L’extrait Huile Levres Ultimate Lip Oil lives up to its promises. My lips feel softer and moisturised, without the waxy or film- like feel of other lip oils or lip balms. The presence of ceramides, phytosphingosine, and peptides also Chanel Sublimage L’extrait Huile Levres Ultimate Lip Oil also fortify the lip’s moisture barrier, making the product more than an ordinary lip oil.
The Chanel Sublimage L’extrait Huile Levres Ultimate Lip Oil melts into my lips to leave a lightweight feel that’s comfortable in Singapore’s humid climate. When used on its own, Chanel Sublimage L’extrait Huile Levres Ultimate Lip Oil leaves a shine that’s just right for healthy looking lips. It also pairs well with my other lipsticks to give a sleek shine.
I especially like using this lip oil overnight; and on flights- it does a great job keeping my lips well moisturised without feeling tacky or sticky.
The bad about Chanel Sublimage L’extrait Huile Levres Ultimate Lip Oil
Polyfractionated Vanilla Planifolia and Swertia extracts are the hero ingredients in Chanel Sublimage L’extrait Huile Levres Ultimate Lip Oil. While their benefits have been extolled by Chanel Beauty’s R&D team, from an academic standpoint, there has not been any clinical trials on these skincare ingredients in peer reviewed journals. Chanel also has not published peer-reviewed research on their specific extraction methods or clinical efficacy data for their Swertia extract; so information about the optimal formulations and effectiveness in the skin and lips is still unclear.
Chanel Sublimage L’extrait Huile Levres Ultimate Lip Oil is one of the most expensive lip oils. Some may argue that more affordable ceramide based lip balms deliver similar lip barrier repair albeit without Chanel’s refined sensorial experience and luxury packaging.

Final verdict on Chanel Sublimage L’extrait Huile Levres Ultimate Lip Oil
Chanel Sublimage L’Extrait Huile Lèvres is a sophisticated lip oil that combines Chanel’s exclusive Polyfractionated Vanilla Planifolia and Swertia extracts together with well established lip care ingredients like emollients, ceramides and peptides in a luxuriously presented product
This lip oil delivers lip moisture and plumping of the lip creases; and Chanel has elevated the simple act of lipcare into an luxurious art. Every detail, from the statement pouch, proprietary ingredients, cooling gold tip applicator and signature Sublimage fragrance makes using the Chanel lip oil a elegant, pampering experience. If you’re into luxury beauty products that go above and beyond with gorgeous, elegant textures, and fragrances, Chanel Sublimage L’Extrait Huile Lèvre is for you. However, if you seek a functional, affordable lip oil without the luxury experience- you’ll find other options to serve you. For me, I’m a fan of Chanel Sublimage’s lip oil; and I’m happy to splurge on this.
