Starting the year with something gilded, gold and a little different: a review of Burberry Beauty makeup. Since its inception, the blog has focused mostly on skincare; beauty trends and technology; and aesthetic treatments… This is the very first makeup post on the blog! I’m an advocate of healthy skin for makeup free days; but I also embrace the fun and transformative power of wearing makeup. Healthy skin and wearing makeup can coexist; and as someone who loves her lip tints and eyeliners as well as going makeup free on my off duty days- a little color can make one feel more put together.
Name a fashion label that’s quintessentially British- and I’d probably have to say Burberry. Trench coats, plaids and the iconic Burberry knight come to mind when then the luxury fashion house is mentioned- but makeup?
Launched in 2010, Burberry is the makeup line of British fashion house, Burberry. According to Christopher Bailey, then-creative director for Burberry; the beauty line was borne out of the luxury brand’s desire for makeup products that were easy to use after struggling with caked makeup and mistakes in colours on runways and shoots.
Brand names and heritage are no guarantees of success for the beauty lines of luxury brands. Where some brands have found success, some others like Prada Beauty and Versace Makeup have folded. In the notoriously finicky makeup market, Burberry Beauty has carved a niche for itself for creating effortless runway looks. In this decade, the British beauty brand has launched several seasons inspired by the fashion house’s runway themes.
Burberry Beauty’s most popular products are its foundation (Ultimate Glow Foundation), liquid highlighter (Fresh Glow Luminous Fluid Base), lipstick (Kisses), highlighter powder (Fresh Glow Highlighter) and eye palettes. I’ll be reviewing most of these favourites in this blogpost.

Burberry Beauty’s Ultimate Glow Cushion Foundation is described as a serum foundation- a combination of hydrating skincare and foundation. This cushion foundation contains hyaluronic acid, a humectant to moisturise the skin as well as antioxidants such as viola extract, niacinamide and white tea.
Burberry Beauty Ultimate Glow Cushion Foundation Review
Burberry Beauty’s Ultimate Glow Cushion is a light to medium coverage foundation that leaves my skin feel well moisturised. It sits well on my skin throughout the day without caking or drying up into fine lines or crevices. I’m using shade 10 Fair Warm, and this shade matches my skin tone right. It gives my skin a soft, luminous glow from within.
I put together this fresh faced look using some of the Burberry products from this review. I used Burberry Beauty’s Ultimate Glow Cushion Foundation to get a soft glow and light coverage. I also used Runway Eye Palatte in Light Camel all over the eyelids and Tan on the outer corners; Burberry Kisses in No 117 Burnished Red on the lips; and Ultimate Lift Mascara for the lashes. Eyeliner was from Make Up Forever and eyebrow palette was from Kate Tokyo. Very easy and fuss free; whole look was done in under 10 minutes.
This cushion foundation gives light coverage that can be easily built to a medium coverage with a few more dabs. Burberry Beauty Ultimate Glow Cushion also blends easily- so if you’re looking for a makeup base that’s fuss free and efficient, this is up your alley. Another plus for Burberry Beauty Ultimate Glow Cushion Foundation- it’s pretty long lasting, even without a primer. I’ve used this cushion foundation for 6 hours and more under the sun, and the foundation held up well; without running or streaking.
The downsides to Burberry Beauty Ultimate Glow Cushion are that it takes quite a while to dry and it pils with a few of my sunscreens. Nonetheless; Burberry Beauty Ultimate Glow Cushion is still one that I really like; just that it does not work with all sunscreens.
The Burberry Runway Eye Palette is a limited edition release from the Spring 2021 Colour Clash Collection. The choice of colours in the Burberry Runway Eye Palette was inspired by the fashion house’s runway collection, hence the choice of youthful and vibrant colours.
This eye palette contains 9 colours in different hues and finishes. It contains shades of beige, brown, burgundy and vermillion red in matte, shimmer and metallic finishes. Another detail that’s worth mentioning about the Burberry Runway Eye Palette- the eye shadows are pressed with Burberry fabrics’ signature garbadine pattern.
Burberry Beauty Runway Eye Palette review
Burberry Beauty Runway Eye Palette’s colours are rich. With one swipe of my brush, the colour transfer onto my lids was highly pigmented. It made my eyelids look dry; so I paired Burberry Beauty Runway Eye Palette with an eyelid primer and it looked less dry and powdery.
The staying power of Burberry Beauty Runway Eye Palette is also very good. No smudging or budging even after a long day out. However, it takes quite a bit of effort to blend Burberry Beauty Runway Eye Palette once it gets on the lids.
For fans of nude and neutral colours, Burberry Beauty Runway Eye Palette also comes in matte and luxe finishes for versatility. I like using Light Camel, a beige like colour and Tan for a simple, polished look to work. On occasions, I also like to use Dark Brown as an eyeliner or a smoky look.
Burberry Kisses is Burberry Beauty’s hydrating lipstick range which promises long lasting matte finishes.
Burberry Kisses Review
Burberry Kisses is a creamy and highly pigmented lipstick with rich colour payoff. Colour coverage is very high with Burberry Kisses- one layer was all I needed to get a very opaque finish.
The finish is matte with just a very light sheen to it. Burberry Kisses is also moisturising enough so my lips do not flake or feel dry. The only weakness of Burberry Kisses was that it is not as long lasting as expected. The colours come off very easily with wipes or drinking; and there was no lingering lip tint.
That aside, I really like how this lipstick blends in my lips smoothly; without feeling heavy, or sticky. Burberry Kisses is weightless on the lips in spite of its opacity. I’m wearing Burberry Kisses in Burnished Red No 117; a timeless, burnt red colour that’s very strong; so it’s best paired with makeup.
Burberry Beauty Fresh Glow Luminous Fluid Base is a face primer that multi-tasks as a highlighter or as a mix-in to eyeshadow for an added glow.
Burberry Beauty Fresh Glow Luminous Fluid Base Review
I’m using Burberry Beauty Fresh Glow Luminous Fluid Base in No. 1 Nude Radiance. This is a light, almost nude colour with a little shimmer in it. On my skin, Burberry Beauty Fresh Glow Luminous Fluid Base illuminates my skin with a good balance. The pearlescent particles are very fine, so Burberry Beauty Fresh Glow Luminous Fluid Base gives a glow without venturing into glittery territory.
I really like the lightweight texture that Burberry Beauty Fresh Glow Luminous Fluid Base has; however this shade was a little too cool for me. My skin tone usually looks better with warmer primers or foundations with a pink undertone. This was lacking in Burberry Beauty Fresh Glow Luminous Fluid Base, so although my skin glowed with it, the final finish was not as impressive as I’ve had with other makeup bases with warmer colours.
I found that Burberry Beauty Fresh Glow Luminous Fluid Base worked better as a liquid highlighter. When used to highlight my cheekbones, the end result with Burberry Beauty Fresh Glow Luminous Fluid Base was much better for me. I only needed a very tiny amount to get a luminous glow.
Overall, I like Burberry Beauty Fresh Glow Luminous Fluid Base better as highlighter. As an all-round face primer; the colour No. 1 Nude Radiance was not the right one for me.
Burberry Beauty’s Ultimate Lift Mascara is the newest mascara in Burberry’s beauty range. This mascara promises to be a do it all- for lash length, volumising and curls.
Burberry Beauty Ultimate Lift Mascara Review
Burberry Beauty Ultimate Lift Mascara is a very user-friendly mascara for beginners to make up. The curve of the wand and microbristles allows the mascara to spread easily on lashes without clumping. The mascara also dries fairly quickly, without smearing.
My short and straight Asian lashes looked longer and slightly fuller with Burberry Beauty Ultimate Lift Mascara. However, my lashes were not significantly more curly- something that my lash curler could easily fix.
Overall, a fuss free experience with Burberry Beauty Ultimate Lift Mascara. The results are natural; lashes were longer and slightly fuller; nothing over the top.
Similar to its cushion foundation counterpart, Burberry Beauty Ultimate Glow Foundation also contains hyaluronic acid to moisturise the skin and antioxidants (niacinamide, viola extract and green tea). The foundation comes in a sleek, pump dispenser with the classic Burberry tartan embossed on the case.
Burberry Beauty Ultimate Glow Foundation Review
Similar to its cushion foundation counterpart, Burberry Beauty Ultimate Glow Foundation is a light coverage foundation. I find that a little bit goes a long way with Burberry Beauty Ultimate Glow Foundation; just 2-3 pumps are all I need to get light coverage and hide pores.
Burberry Beauty Ultimate Glow Foundation is lightweight on the skin; but only very slightly heavier than the cushion foundation. I’m also using shade 10 Fair Warm. It leaves a matte and natural looking finish; as opposed to the luminous look that the Burberry Beauty Ultimate Glow Cushion Foundation gives.
Burberry Beauty Ultimate Glow Foundation is slightly drier on the skin than the cushion foundation. Users with oily skin types may find Burberry Beauty Ultimate Glow Foundation more suitable for their skin. That said, it’s still a matte foundation that’s easy to use- blends easily, dries quickly and hides blemishes well.
Another look that I put together using Burberry Beauty’s Ultimate Glow Foundation as a base. As you can see, the liquid foundation is more matte and has higher coverage than its cushion counterpart. I find that Burberry Beauty’s Ultimate Glow Foundation suits a heavier make-up look. I also used Burberry Beauty’s Fresh Glow Luminous Base to highlight my cheekbones. For my eye colours; I used Burberry Beauty’s Runway eye palatte- Light Camel on the inner half of the lids; Tan on the outer half. I also used Dark Brown to line my eyelids. Lashes were coated with the Ultimate Lift Mascara and lips were finished with Burberry Kisses in Burnished Red.
Bottom line- a luxurious makeup collection with mostly flattering, versatile and weightless products. My two favourites from this review of Burberry Beauty’s makeup products are the Ultimate Glow Cushion Foundation and the Burberry Kisses lipstick in Burnished Red.
Luxury and couture fashion houses branching into beauty lines is a wonderful way for the brand to improve accessibility and visibility. Burberry Beauty’s products are a standout for me on the basis of the finishes and quality of their products. The makeup products are sophisticated and luxurious; in line with the fashion brand’s heritage. I’ve been won over by Burberry Beauty’s quality finishes, lightweight formulas and fuss free application.
