Augustinus Bader
21 March 2025
One of 2025’s most anticipated skincare releases has to be newly launched sunscreen from the Augustinus Bader line. Named simply, The Sunscreen SPF 50 by Augustinus Bader, this sunscreen features the brand’s proprietary TFC8® technology and is a long awaited addition to the comprehensive skincare line up.
Now that the press embargo has been lifted, I’m excited to share my review of the Augustinus Bader The Sunscreen SPF 50. With its premium price tag, does the Augustinus Bader sunscreen live up to expectations?
Founded in 2018 by Professor Augustinus Bader, a German biomedical scientist specialising in stem cell research and regenerative medicine. His research focuses on stem cell technology and tissue repair, particularly in the field of wound healing.
At the core of his eponymous skincare brand is TFC8® (Trigger Factor Complex 8) technology, a proprietary blend of amino acids, vitamins, and molecules designed to optimize skin renewal.
Augustinus Bader skincare products have gained a cult following among celebrities, beauty aficionados and beauty editors for its innovative technologies and elegant finishes. The brand is known for its luxury formulations backed by science and research.
Prior to the launch of the sunscreen in March 2025, I had an insider’s preview of the sunscreen in 2024; and had the opportunity to speak to Prof Augustinus Bader himself on a few occasions when he was in Singapore to better understand the brand’s TFC8® technology and innovations.
Augustinus Bader The Sunscreen SPF 50 has been in the makings for 4 years; and underwent multiple iterations before Prof Augustinus Bader and his team were finally satisfied with this rendition- a broad spectrum sunscreen that could simultaneously repair sun damage; with its signature elegant finish. Prof Bader also shared that the preferences of Asian consumers were also carefully considered to create a sunscreen that was lightweight, without a white cast.
• SPF 50
• UVA coverage not stated. European sunscreen regulations do not mandate PAtesting, but for a sunscreen to qualify as broad spectrum, as in with Augustinus Bader The Sunscreen SPF 50, the UVA protection factor must be 1/3 of the sun protection factor.
• Uvinul A Plus (Diethylamino Hydroxybenzoyl Hexyl Benzoate)
• Uvinul T 150 (Ethylhexyl Triazone)
• Tinosorb S (Bis-Ethylhexyloxyphenol Methoxyphenyl Triazine)
• Phenylbenzimidazole Sulfonic Acid

THE GOOD ABOUT Augustinus Bader The Sunscreen SPF 50
• The UV filters in Augustinus Bader The Sunscreen SPF 50 are new generation filters with improved photostability with high UVA protection.
• Also contains a number of antioxidant and vitamin sources for additional defense against UV rays; essential lipids and peptides to support skin barrier
• Fans of the brand’s proprietary TFC8® will also appreciate its presence in this Augustinus Bader The Sunscreen SPF 50
• Texture is creamy, but melts into a lightweight feel
• Feels moisturising and comfortable
• No cosmetic coverage, matte finish
• Layers well with skincare and makeup with no pilling
• Does not leave a white cast for me
The most obvious drawback for Augustinus Bader The Sunscreen SPF 50 would be its cost. At a hefty $205 for 30ml, this sunscreen may be prohibitive for some and it faces fierce competition in the sunscreen market, especially in Asia.
The choice of UV filters, and ingredients rich in antioxidants, peptides and essential lipids make Augustinus Bader The Sunscreen SPF 50 a good multifunctional sunscreen- that moisturises, supports the skin barrier and provides antioxidant defense while serving its purpose as sunscreen. The finish is wonderfully light, and great for those who prefer matte, no cosmetic finishes. In my opinion, those with normal and dry skin will really appreciate the moisturising feel. The skin leaves the skin feeling plump without feeling occlusive or overly-rich. If you’re someone battling lots of external stressors- you’ll appreciate this antioxidant rich product.
If you’re a fan of science backed skincare and TFC8®, you’ll like Augustinus Bader The Sunscreen SPF 50. The Augustinus Bader The Sunscreen SPF 50 is expensive, but I think this sunscreen is worth trying if you want your sunscreen to go above and beyond sun protection.
